Every now and then I get the chance to photograph something totally cool. This engagement shoot is one of those times. When Carrie and Garrett told me where they wanted to do their Athens, GA engagement pictures my jaw dropped. I re-read it thinking, "are we allowed to do that?" But Carrie had everything taken care of and the date was set. Engagement photos in UGA's Sanford Stadium!
Carrie and Garrett have a movie script instead of real life:
"We got set up on a blind date our senior year in high school by two of our friends that were dating. We lived in the same town, but went to different schools and never even knew each other existed."
Kidding! But seriously, how many blind dates end up with a marriage proposal six years down the road? And how many couples spend their childhood living in the same neighborhood (one street apart) without ever meeting until that fateful blind date? It's too good, I love it.
Their engagement shoot was a little like a blind date for me because I'd never met either of them before we walked into that stadium together. And for the record, this "date" was a huge success! I had a blast exploring the stadium and hearing about their time at the University of Georgia. One thing about Carrie and Garrett that you'll notice within a few minutes of meeting them is that they're so genuine and relaxed together! It was easy for me to photograph them because they carried the conversation and kept each other laughing between pictures. These two also came prepared with my all time favorite wardrobe pieces! Custom UGA Bulldawg jerseys with their future last name and their wedding date! It was the perfect thing to tie the entire shoot together. Ready? Enjoy!
Guys who are considering proposing anytime in the future, take notes:
"We took a trip to Charleston right before Christmas because Garrett had never been. On the first full day we went to tour a historic house (because we're history nerds). Garrett kept talking about how we just had to go to the Waterfront park, so after the house tour we started to walk that way. I was a little annoyed because it kept raining off and on the day and we were already over a mile away from the row house that we were staying at. He said he wanted to stop for a cup of coffee, and he accidently made us stop in the smallest, most awkward coffee shop ever opened. We ended up staying there for about an hour because he had hired a photographer from Charleston to capture the proposal, and she was running late. We finally got there and he kept me from walking by the water. It turns out he actually had a reason for that! He stopped us right infront of the pineapple fountain sculpture and he dropped to one knee and asked me to spend the rest of our lives together. Of course we both cried and I said yes!" - Carrie, bride-to-be
Garrett pulled a classic sneaky-boyfriend move so that Carrie would be totally surprised by the ring:
He snooped on text messages that I was sending to my best friend. She randomly asked me what I would want my engagement ring to look like and I sent her a pin from Pinterest and he copied it (of course in a smaller form because nobody has won the lottery yet 😉)
High fives all around! I would try to use a more sports-y phrase but I'm playing it safe with what I know ;)
Congrats, you two!!
Oh yeah, and GO DAWGS! ;)
